Permanent Makeup (PMU) FAQs:
What is Permanent Makeup (PMU)?
What is the healing process like?
After your PMU brow procedure, the healing process typically takes 7-10 days for the surface skin, but full healing can take 4-6 weeks as the pigment settles into the skin. Here’s a general timeline of what to expect:
Days 1-2: Your brows may appear darker and more intense, with slight swelling or redness.
Days 3-5: The brows will begin to scab and flake as they heal. Do not pick or scratch the scabs.
Days 6-10: The scabs will fall off naturally, and the colour may appear lighter as the pigment settles into the skin.
Weeks 2-4: The brows will fully heal, and the final colour will show up, with any fading or patchiness appearing as the pigment settles.
Tips for a smooth healing process:
Follow aftercare instructions carefully, such as avoiding water, makeup, and touching the area.
Apply any recommended ointments to keep the area moisturized.
Avoid sun exposure and excessive sweating during healing.
Once fully healed, your PMU brows should look natural and defined, lasting for 1-3 years with proper care.
How long does PMU last?
PMU can last 1-3 years depending on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Annual top-ups are recommended to maintain the desired look.
Do I need a consultation before my PMU appointment?
Yes, consultations are highly recommended to ensure we understand your desired look and that you’re a good candidate for PMU. This can be done on the same day as your treatment or at a separate appointment.
What should I do before my PMU appointment?
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, or blood-thinning medications 24 hours before the procedure. Ensure your skin is clean and free from makeup.
Is the PMU procedure painful?
The level of discomfort during a PMU brow procedure varies from person to person, but generally, it is minimal. We use a numbing cream to ensure the process is as comfortable as possible.
The numbing cream helps to numb the brow area, and the sensation is typically described as a mild scratching or tingling rather than sharp pain. While everyone’s pain tolerance is different, most find the procedure tolerable and manageable.
If you’re concerned about pain, don’t hesitate to talk to us beforehand, and we can address any specific worries you might have!
How long does the treatment take?
The initial session usually takes between 1.5-2 hours. This includes the consultation, numbing time and creating the perfect eyebrow shape for you. The 6-8 week touch up session usually takes up to an 1 hour.
Is the touch-up necessary?
Yes. During the healing process certain areas may heal out and will need to be refilled. The pigment may also need adjusting as well as the thickness and shape. Most importantly, the touch up is for perfecting the brows to ensure you love your new brows and to make sure they last.
Who shouldn't get PMU?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are under 18 years old.
If you are undergoing chemotherapy/radiotherapy.
If you’ve had Botox/fillers in the brow area less than 3 weeks before your appointment.
If you are prone to keloid scarring. If you are on blood/skin thinning medication.
